CMI Unit 4008 Promoting Diversity and Inclusion

About this course

On this course you will learn about the current UK legislation, protected characteristics, definitions if discrimination and harassment and how the law is implemented at work through policies and practices. You will consider the business case for diversity and inclusion.

You will also learn how individual’s behaviour supports or undermines diversity and the potential impact on teams and performance. Next you’ll learn tools and techniques for promoting equality and diversity and how to challenge poor behaviour and get people back on track when difficulties arise.

Learning outcomes

  1. Understand legislation, regulations, policies, and codes of practice relevant to equality and valuing of diversity
  2. Understand how organisational and individual behaviour affects individuals and teams
  3. Be able to use feedback to devise an improvement plan
  4. Understand how to encourage equality and diversity in others

Course content

1.1 Describe the need to acknowledge and recognise individuals’ background and beliefs

1.2 Discuss the need to respect diversity, value people as individuals and not discriminate against individuals

1.3 Describe the process of providing individuals with the information needed for them to make informed decisions about exercising their rights

2.1 Describe how individual behaviour can affect an individual and a team

2.2 Describe how organisational behaviour can affect an individual and a team

2.3 Analyse feedback from individuals on personal behaviour

3.1 Devise an improvement plan based upon received feedback

4.1 Identify situations where others are not promoting equality and valuing diversity

4.2 Provide opportunities to help others to promote equality and value diversity

4.3 Discuss sources from which to seek support when experiencing difficulty in understanding how to promote equality and value diversity
